Each year the AMA releases updates to the CPT codes at their annual Symposium. Detailed information about revised and new codes is disseminated to attendees and is shared with those listening to this audioconference. 2026 will see 288 new codes, 84 deletions and 46 revisions.
Knowledge of the CPT codes, even in a perfunctory manner, is an important part of looking forward to the next year’s code assignment.

As new codes are released each year, many that work in coding and billing only focus on the ones they are currently billing. Having an exposure to all new and revised codes is important.
